The Kal Haven Trail is a Fantastic Multi Use Trail in South Haven
From 1870 to 1970, the Kalamazoo and South Haven Railroad route served the two towns, but was abandoned and repurposed as an incredible trail. Kal Haven Trail links South Haven to Kalamazoo over a series of bridges, historical sites, small towns, and more. The surface of the former railroad bed that comprises the trail is formed of limestone and slag.
On the trail, visitors can enjoy activities all year long, from hiking and biking to horseback riding, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing. Geocaching is another popular activity on Kal Haven Trail. Overall, Kal Haven Trail is known for being an easy, scenic, and intriguing trail to explore.
Along the way, there is an abundance of small towns and historic points of interest for you and your guests to check out. Towns with access to Kal Haven Trail South Haven include Kibbe, Lacota, Grand Junction, Berlamont, Bloomingdale, Gobles, Pine Grove Mills, Kendall, Mentha, Alamo, and Kalamazoo. The trail also extends into Downtown Kalamazoo as an extension of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail.
The trail is open to the public from daily from 8:00am – 10:00pm. You’ll encounter Kal Haven Trail at Sesquicentennial State Park, South Haven, MI 49090. The nearest trailhead to South Haven is located at the intersection of Wells Street and Bailey Street at 51 Bailey Avenue, South Haven, MI 49090.
