The South Haven winter season is like something out of a fairy tale. The trees are covered in snow and icicles, the lake is coated with ice, and sometimes the water even freezes in the middle of a wave. There are festivals where people are served cider and hot toddies and children ride sleds on hills around town. It is the perfect place to spend the holidays and it is a fantastic place to stay when you go skiing. South Haven is popular in the winter, and it is a good idea to make your reservations early and plan your activities in advance.
Festivals
The Lake Michigan winter holiday season brings a tree lighting ceremony, a pet parade, and the Mistletoe Market, which features homemade gifts by local artists. The Ice Breaker Festival takes place in February and includes ice sculptures by local artists. You can warm up with a hot bowl of chili or a hot drink and you can enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride and eat s’mores after you skate on the ice rink that is in the center of town. The city of South Haven has partnered with Beachwalk Properties to bring you a fabulous Valentine’s Day. The city’s local businesses put together gift baskets featuring their products for the guests of our beautiful homes.
Skiing
South Haven is adjacent to many ski resorts such as Timber Ridge. Mulligan’s Hollow Ski Bowl is located right in town and offers low-cost skiing for all. A daily pass is only $15 to $20 for adults, and a bunny hill pass is just $8 to $10. The ski area is built on a World War II basic training camp and it is run entirely by volunteers.
Dining
Many of the restaurants in town offer special Lake Michigan winter menus. Snug Harbor features Asian fusion and American fare with a heavy emphasis on fresh local fish. Be sure to get a seasonal fruit assortment with your meal.
