Top Reasons to Visit South Haven

You are planning your annual family vacation and you are wondering where to travel. You want to make sure that everyone in the family has a great time, so you need a place that is just as appealing to the adults as it is to the children. There are many reasons to visit Lake Michigan such as our beautiful beaches, amusement parks, Lake Michigan attractions, and lots of great dining and shopping. Perhaps the best reason to visit South Haven is the combination of outdoor activities and unique attractions we have to offer.

Outdoor Activities and Lake Michigan Attractions

Known as “the third coast,” the third largest of America’s Great Lakes boasts many beaches. The waters of Lake Michigan are perfect for swimming in the summer and the beaches are as long as those near the ocean. Each beach has something unique to offer, such as the sand dunes in Van Buren State Park. Here you will find tree-covered dunes that sit above the water and give you a breathtaking view of the lake. Grand Haven Michigan had a small “secret beach” that is popular with the locals.

There is a lot of hiking near Lake Michigan. The North Country Trail offers 126 miles of paths through the woods. You can also go mountain biking on the Kal-Haven Rail Trail which is an old railroad trail that has been converted into a 34-mile-long bike path. The trail runs between South Haven and Kalamazoo.

Unique Towns

Lake Michigan is flanked by several unique hamlets. Holland, Michigan is modeled after the Netherlands’ most famous region. It was established by Dutch settlers and has many quaint shops that sell such things as fudge, homemade ice cream, and wooden shoes.

Mackinac Island is the most famous national park in Michigan. To visit Mackinac is to take a trip back in time. There are no cars allowed on the island and people get around by horse and buggy. The Grand Hotel is one of the biggest draws on the island. It is an enormous plantation-style structure right in the middle of town.
