Deerlick Creek Park
If you are visiting South Haven, Michigan you are certainly planning to log in a few hours at the beach. Deerlick Creek Beach is located right in South Haven Township and is near a small creek that leads right into the lake. It is a great place to kayak and it is one of the lesser-known places to fish. It is a safe place to visit if you are traveling with a dog, as the beach is dog friendly and frequented by many cute canines.
Planning a Visit
The easiest way to get to Deerlick Creek Park is to take Hwy M-140 N to 14th Street. You will find the entrance to the park on 13th Street. There is plenty of free parking and you can carry in a kayak or canoe.
Boating at Deerlick Creek Park
The creek itself is a great place to launch a kayak, but if the water is low, you can always use the beach. Once you are on the water you will enjoy a magnificent view of this majestic lake. The waters are placid enough that even a beginning kayaker will feel comfortable. As you travel along, you will see blue heron, seagulls, and maybe even an owl or two. You will also see some of South Haven’s most opulent homes that sit right along the beach.
The beach area of Deerlick Creek is large and a great place to lay out and get a tan in the summer. As it is one of the lesser-known beaches, you won’t be bothered by flying beach balls and frisbees or screaming kids. It is a serene place to take a picnic or watch the sunset. You may find a fossil or two as you walk along the shores of this beach, as with many of the beaches in South Haven.
