North Beach
When you think of South Haven, Michigan, you can’t help but think of a day at the beach. There are many beaches in this fabulous resort town, but North Beach Michigan is the biggest and most popular. The beach offers swimming, beautiful views, children’s play areas, and dining facilities. It is a great place to hold an event and there are lots of photo opportunities.
Things to Do
The temperature of Lake Michigan’s water is perfect for swimming. There is no lifeguard at the North Beach in South Haven, so you will want to go in with the little ones. If you are there on a windy day, it is a great place to go kiteboarding. If water is not your thing, there is a sand volleyball court, and getting up a game is never a problem with the many tourists who flock here. There is a playground that features swings and slides. You can also take a long walk down the pier where you will find the South Haven Light House. The beach has many picnic tables and grills and you can even rent a picnic shelter.
Things to See
You can walk up the stairs at this beach to see a panoramic view of the sand dunes and the lake from the observation deck. Many seagulls that enjoy the sand and waters on this beach and it is the perfect place to sit and watch the sailboats off in the distance or see the sunset at night.
Events at North Beach Michigan
North Beach in South Haven is the perfect place to host a wedding or family reunion. Imagine having your wedding ceremony with Lake Michigan as your backdrop. You must call the park service first to let them know you are coming, and you can set up chairs 30 minutes before the event.
Planning Your Visit
The entrance to the beach is at 18775 North Shore Drive in South Haven. Parking is $5.00 a day for Ottawa County residents and $7.00 a day for non-residents. The beach is open from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm from March 1 to October 15 and from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm from October 15 to February 28. If you’re traveling with your dog, he or she will only be welcome during the fall and winter months.
